My second post to get our blog headed on its way pertains to the NCC gardening plots that our class was able to visit! Today, was a big day for many of the volunteers at the garden! Not only did we have a great time planting, tilling, and watering; but also we got to enjoy the fresh sunshine. By attending one of the sessions hosted by Brittany who presented to our class, we were able to get our hands dirty with the techniques she explained to us. I learned a lot about how to garden and where to garden certain plants. For instance, peas are grown next to a wire fencing so they can grow upwards, carrots are scattered across the ground and are mixed by hand to be lowered into the soil, and watering constantly needs to be replenished to be sure the plants are getting nutrients.
Below, is some of the volunteer work I participated in today. I hope it gives you a feel for what goes on in the NCC Garden Plots if you would like to volunteer!
There is a lot of hard work that goes into planting and to have a successful garden you must be fully dedicated! Happy Planting!

Hi, Claire
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you guys were having fun (and what a perfect day!) Will you get to claim some of the foods you are helping to grow?
Peggy
Claire,
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lot of fun actually. I was unaware that there were different planting styles to use. I should look up some other styles and see if that helps anything in my garden.
Maxine
Peggy and Maxine,
ReplyDeleteWe had a fantastic time! I would recommend participating in one of these activities to gain one of the two environmental activities we have to do for class! Also, you are able to take the food that you grow at least some of it in return for the hard work you put in!
Claire
